Clinical Reflexology

Reflexology is a non-invasive, holistic therapy based on the theory that reflex points on the feet, hands and sometimes ears, correspond to the organs, glands and systems of the body. By stimulating and relaxing the reflexes, it can help to naturally restore and maintain the equilibrium of the body.

How does Clinical Reflexology work?

An individual treatment plan is prepared specifically for the person receiving reflexology. This can be incorporated into a preventative healthcare way of life to address the pressures of todays’ world.

Reflexology can support people living with conditions. It can aid relaxation and improve sleep. Reflexology promotes the release of tension, increases well-being, and can improve mood.

Reflexology can be introduced into a healthy lifestyle to help the body to regain its balance, restore energy levels and encourage natural feelings of wellbeing. This is especially relevant nowadays when dealing with stress which causes over 70% of all disease. It is important to note that reflexology doesn’t claim to cure conditions, nor can a reflexologist make any diagnosis.

Reflexology isn’t a ‘new kid on the block’- it originates in ancient civilisations around the world. There is actual evidence of it on a physicians’ tomb from 2500 B.C. showing reflexology being practised in ancient Egypt!

In the early 1900’s Sir Charles Sherrington (Nobel prize-winner for medicine), influenced Dr William Fitzgerald who went on to discover how, by applying pressure on one part of the body, it affected another different area of the body. This was the foundation stone of knowledge leading to the development of Reflexology as we now know it.

A relaxing time for you!

You only need to remove your shoes and socks as reflexology is carried out on the foot/ lower leg or hands.

We will have a chat about your health and complete a questionnaire to check that reflexology is appropriate for you and that you have no contraindications. I will also ask you to sign a consent form. I will explain how reflexology works and that it isn’t a substitute for medical treatment. I welcome any questions and feedback you may have about your treatments.

During the treatment you may feel relaxed or talkative, feel warmth in the body and sometimes a sense of energy moving or a sense of lightness – these are all signs of reflexology having an effect.
